Russian children have been called an "endangered species" by a recent UN report. Even with a recent decrease in the number of babies being born yearly, there are over 400,000 children under 18 that live in orphanages across Russia today.
Under the current system, when children turn 18 they are required to leave their orphanage. Unfortunately, more than 50% turn to crime and prostitution and 30% are addicted to alcohol within their first year of living independently. Up to 50,000 young women are forced into prostitution by organized crime groups who traffic them abroad every year.
In addition, Russia has the highest suicide rate for people between the ages of 18-25 of any country in the world and currently there are few programs available that offer a plan to combat this downward spiral.
Futureworks mission is to assist Russian orphans, who are "aging out" of the system, in becoming successful, self reliant adults. We accomplish this goal by providing education, mentoring and living expenses during their transition time from the orphanage to independent living. They receive training in job and life skills enabling them to become independent, productive members of their communities.
Providing Russian orphans hope for the future through education, training, support and the love of CHRIST.
