TRANSITION PROGRAM

GOALS FOR THE FUTUREWORKS RUSSIAN PROGRAM

• To share the love of Christ with each student and staff and connect them with a Christian support system
• To prepare students to take entrance exams for a college program of their choice
• To provide supplies and financial support while the student is in college
• To provide housing and living expenses while the student is in college
• To prepare students for independent living by providing training in life skills, money management, health issues and interpersonal relationships
• To mentor and guide students as they make important decisions about their future

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

• Teach Living Skills:  Including budgeting, paying bills, buying food, cooking, laundry, etc.
• Psychologist Intervention:  Provide psychologists to teach kids how to deal with life after the orphanage including stress, relationship issues, anxiety about living away from the orphanage, etc.  This also includes testing for children who have alcoholic parents to identify who may have difficulties in this area and need special assistance
•  Career Training:  Provide excursions to visit different types of professions and to bring professionals to the orphanage to talk about career opportunities.  Once a child has chosen a field, preparatory instruction is provided to test for entrance exams
• Legal Knowledge:  This portion of the program teaches kids how to make choices that will keep them out of legal trouble

PARTICIPANT EXPECTATIONS

• Attend all classes and appointments and trainings with the Mentor/Teacher
• Behave in a respectful and responsible manner
• Participate in developing and following a set budget and goal plan
• Maintain open and honest communication with all FutureWorks staff
• Remain drug and alcohol free
• Abide by all school rules and Russian law

OUR MISSION

Futureworks mission is to assist Russian orphans, who are "aging out" of the system, in becoming successful, self reliant adults.  We will accomplish this goal by providing education, mentoring and living expenses during their transition time from the orphanage to independent living.  They will receive training in job and life skills enabling them to become independent productive members of their communities.
